Have you guys heard about this network buzzword called “ IQ tax ”. The IQ tax is a popular term , which refers to the excessive spending of money due to a lack of judgment in shopping.

Recently I’ve been asked if spending on massage gun a kind of IQ tax.

Massage gun , also called fascia gun,  is a kind of percussion therapy for fascia relaxation. After exercise, the sympathetic nerve is overexcited, resulting in muscle too tense even in the static time. That may cause fascia adhesion, which affects the recovery of growth.

When fascia adhere or get injured, the body often appears a lot of uncomfortable reactions: muscle will get stiffness and tightness. The muscle tissue is lax, inelastic or elastic decline. There are irregular blocky or cord-like hard tissues under the skin.

This is the body's way of protecting the muscles, and it's also a protective mechanism that prevents the muscles from recovering, especially some deep muscles that are hard to reach by the foam axis or the vibrating foam axis and so you have to release that extra excitement through fascia relaxation to get that resolved and relieved. With dynamic stretching before training and static stretching after training, the muscles and joints are more beautiful and safe. The fascia gun relaxes the muscles and fascia more deeply and precisely than the foam shafts.

The fascia gun produces 2,000 to 3,000 vibrations per minute, helping muscles and soft tissues to relax and restore blood circulation by hitting the target part of the body with the head of the gun. For example, it can effectively dissipates a large amount of creatine produced by the fatigue of the body due to exercise, work and life.

But, my the next words will certainly offend interests of many factories , because I know some secrets, hahaha.

Q: why do so many factories start making fascia guns?

A: low technical content + cost sharing.

Q: What is the biggest cost of the fascia gun? Why are prices falling so crazily now? What costs the most? The motor? The battery? Massage head? IC? Noise? Technology?

A: None of them. The biggest cost in the early stage is the cost of mold and channel promotion. The mold fee is fixed, and the larger sales amount,  the lower the cost of a single product.

The mold cost of a manufacturer is relatively large, and the sales promotion channel cost a lot too. Compared with the past, fascia gun is well known now, manufacturers have no choice but to enter the era of price competition.

I didn’t mean that fascia gun don’t worth the money. If you know something about sports rehabilitation, you will know that the medical theory in this area is relatively mature in the United States. Hyperice and Theragun are the top two in this field. Hyperice's product line is more diverse. In addition to Hypervolt fascia gun, there are ice compress belts, vibration shaves, fascia balls, thermal shock belts and other rehabilitation equipment, focusing on all aspects of sports.

Hyperice has teamed up with the NASM (National Institute of Sports Medicine) and leading physiotherapists to create a series of tutorials that are highly detailed and professional. After all, we may not know very much about this kind of products and rehabilitation theory, even if you buy it can not make the best use of everything, and Hypervolt supporting tutorials can see the intentions of big brands, all this worth the price.

    Chinese manufacturers are awesome!

I have to say, anything that is not with high tech, as long as it is known by Chinese manufacturers, soon there will be a flood of low-priced products to fill an otherwise empty market. This is good for us as consumers.

Here are some feelings and experiences I get from using massage gun, hope can help you guys a little.

  • Attachment heads: commonly are 4 heads, also there are 6 heads or even 9 heads

I don’t care much about this, 4 is enough I think. Actually the one I used most is ball heads and bullet heads.

  • Battery life: whatever is 2 hours or 4 hours, they all can support one time massage. The average massage time is 5-30 minutes. It matters you charge it one time a week or one time a month.

  • Gear: Even Hyperice only has 3 gears adjustable. After long time use, I found that 3 gear is fully enough.

  • Speed: The standard speed is about 1800-3200 r/min. No need to pursue high speed. It could hurt the capillaries if excessive frequency for a long time.

  • Noise: Noiseless is impossible, maybe in the future will come true. For now, the working noise around 60db is good enough. 60db is not too loud when using it indoors.

  • Additional value: case, LCD display, aluminium alloy shell, brand, doesn’t matter.

  • Price: your call

To summarize, massage gun can do its job.
